tonight i word a clown's nose...i wore it into the mixed media class where i am teaching teens....then i had them put one on if they wanted...THEN i had them write about how they felt when they saw me with the red nose and why they chose to wear or not to wear their red nose...it was amazing to seem respond....even better? by the time class was over some of the teens were wearing their new noses! this piece was inspired by the playfulness that a clown nose can bring to any situation...how can you take someone seriously when they are wearing a clown's nose? ImPoSsIBle!!
once upon a time there was a very serious woman...
everyday she got up and did exactly what she was expected of her...
with no complaints...
then one day she said...
"hello...what about me? i am dying here!"
so she put on a clown's nose and big funny ears...
now she does not take herself so seriously...
a happy ending...
this piece is inspired by Lynn Whipple and her work in the recent "workshop" magazine...i am loving the playfullness!!!
you are such a clown my dear. xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun exercise to get your students to open up! I love the thought behind your artwork featured on Seth's blog, the message is one I need to take to heart more often. Congrats on being featured.
ReplyDeletethanks for the support sandy...i always think i am NOT going to put words on my artwork...but then...hmmmm....the piece tells me it is not complete without the words....so....i hammer the words out on my old typewriter...ahhhhh....now that feels better!!
